Make Moody Gardens Your Choice for Christmas Fun This Year

Do you have any holiday plans? If you’ll be in our neck of the woods this Christmas season, we invite you to take part in one of the most highly anticipated holiday events on the Texas Gulf Coast: A Magical Christmas 2014. This family-friendly event has everything you could possibly want in a holiday show—and then some.

What Is A Magical Christmas 2014?

A Magical Christmas 2014 is a dinner show that includes a very special guest list: master illusionist Curt Miller and his supporting cast of friends. The 2014 iteration of this annual show will feature an all-new slate of illusions and magic acts with ample opportunity for audience participation and enjoyment. The show is offered at competitive prices and runs from December 18 to December 27 – the peak of the Christmas season. Let’s take a closer look at what past audiences have experienced and what this year’s attendees can expect from Mr. Miller and his friends.

History of the Show

This is the third year of A Magical Christmas at Moody Gardens, and the entire cast and crew are excited to build on their past successes. Since its inception, the show has been attended by more than 15,000 people and has received praise from some of the most critical media outlets in the region. Mr. Miller specializes in disappearing acts and other high-stakes illusions, promising mind-bending fun for even the most skeptical of adult attendees.

What Will You Find at This Year’s Show?

This year, Island Star Productions is pleased to announce a completely revamped show that includes all-new illusions and a re-energized score. At A Magical Christmas 2014, you can expect:
•    An all-new magic show with an impressive cast and crew
•    A holiday buffet organized by award-winning chef Robbin Murphy
•    Admission to Moody Gardens Festival of Lights
•    Powerful music and all-around holiday cheer
Depending on seating section, adult tickets range in price from $55 to $85. Kids’ tickets range from $15 to $75. For groups of 20 or more, adult and child tickets come with respective costs of $45 and $29.

Island Paddle’s 2nd Annual Galveston Bay Paddle Race

Enjoy Some Fun in the Sun on Beautiful Galveston Island

Who’s up for some paddling fun in the sun? We know you are. That’s why we’re so excited to announce that we’ll be returning as the host of Island Paddle’s Galveston Bay Paddle Race—the second annual event—this year. We’d love for you to join us on beautiful Galveston Bay for a memorable day of friendly competition and old-fashioned fun. Best of all, the Galveston Bay Paddle Race benefits a great cause.

When and Where

The second annual Galveston Bay Paddle Race will take place on September 27. The festivities will happen right here at Moody Gardens, so you won’t have to travel far from your room to participate. The event begins at 9 a.m. and runs until 2 p.m., but you’re welcome to get there even earlier to watch the crew set up and linger afterwards on the grounds of our beautiful hotel-resort.

Three Races, One Ticket and One Great Cause

The first race is a 5K stand-up paddle race that covers a pre-defined course and comes with a cash prize for the winner. The second is a kayak/canoe race that covers the same 5K course and also comes with a cash prize. For both races, you and your team are welcome to go as hard as you’d like or hang back and finish the course at your own pace. Note that the stand-up paddle event is divided into men’s and women’s categories.

But wait – there’s more! Everyone who enters the first two races is automatically entered into the “K6 Dash for Cash,” a 200-year sprint on a straight course. The winner doesn’t win anything other than a feeling of accomplishment, but we’re confident that that’ll be enough.

All for a Good Cause

Registration for the second annual Galveston Bay Paddle Race costs $45 for the first race and $70 for both. All proceeds benefit the Mauli Ola Foundation, an organization that connects cystic fibrosis patients with surfing opportunities. Other sponsors include the Gulf Coast Marrow Donor Program and its Be the Match Registry, a critical resource for those who live with blood cancers. We hope to see you out in support of these great organizations!

Hotel Announcement: Renovations Are Now Complete!

Moody Gardens is back and better than ever

In case you haven’t already heard the long-awaited news, our renovations are now officially complete. It’s been a long journey, but we’re confident that we’ve created the finest hotel in Galveston—and one of the finest places of lodging anywhere in the state of Texas. At the same time, we’ve remained committed to taking care of the details and ensuring that our guests have a seamless, unforgettable experience.

Our Renovation Project by the Numbers

Our recent renovation project was among the largest that the Texas Gulf Coast has seen this decade. If you’re keeping track, some key figures include:

•    24 months from start to finish
•    About $20 million invested
•    428 individual room renovations and decor upgrades
•    One upgraded restaurant and one completely redesigned restaurant

New Highlights

While the headline numbers are impressive enough, they only begin to tell the story of our renovation. Before they even enter our doors, arriving guests come face-to-face with a beautiful “living wall” and stunning signage. Inside the lobby, new floors, furniture, lighting, televisions and water features foster a luxurious atmosphere. We adhered to a “bring the outside in” theme throughout, adding natural-colored carpeting and fixtures. We also created a completely new restaurant concept called Cafe in the Park. Since its March debut, the eatery has earned nothing but rave reviews.

Old Favorites

Of course, we’re big proponents of sticking with what works. To that end, we’ve kept many of the features that made Moody Garden a standout among Galveston Hotels. Our 242-acre tropical garden remains intact and will be periodically upgraded with new plants and exhibits. Our huge pool, including a massive swim-up bar, remains just as it was before the renovation. We still offer best-in-class amenities like 24-hour room service, a fitness center, three pyramids with family-friendly attractions and an award-winning golf course. Simply put, you can find everything you crave—and much more—at Moody Gardens.

Discover Why Moody Gardens Stands Apart From Other Galveston Hotels

We wouldn’t have undertaken this massive renovation project if we weren’t serious about giving our guests every opportunity to enjoy their stay. Now that we’ve got a fresh new look and exciting new amenities, we feel confident enough to say that you won’t find a better experience at any other Galveston resorts. Of course, you don’t have to take our word for it. Visit our reservations page or call us directly at (888) 388-8484 to book an unforgettable stay in the heart of the Texas Gulf Coast.

Moody Gardens will transform into the premier holiday destination with the debut of ICE LAND: Ice Sculptures featuring Christmas with SpongeBob SquarePants on November 15. Being the only holiday ice exhibition on the Gulf Coast, this vast and amazing display of magnificent ice creations will add a frosty new addition to the Festival of Lights and other holiday attractions this year.

“We are very excited to bring such a unique experience to south Texas,” said John Zendt, Moody Gardens President and CEO, who added that carving giant ice sculpture scenes and holding them at 9 degrees outside on a sub-tropical island is a significant logistical challenge. “Our guests are in for a special surprise. There is no other venue in the Southwest that offers such a diverse range of activities and amenities for a complete holiday experience.”
