Slip And Slide At Schlitterbahn Galveston

The biggest, baddest, wettest and wildest ride is officially open at Schlitterbahn Galveston. The towering Massiv Monster Blaster is not just a water slide, but in fact, a “watercoaster” that was recently certified by the Guinness Book of World Records as the “Worlds Tallest Watercoaster.”

At 81 feet tall, the red, green and white slide is a sight to behold. The coaster utilizes a two-person inner tube and even has a translucent section where spectator can see riders in action. Massiv also utilizes modern engineering throughout the ride. To move riders up the various hills, the coasters uses Master Blaster technology. The thrill level for Massiv has been deemed “aggressive, big drops, dark, high speed, high thrill and scary.”

For those looking for something a little less “action packed,” Schiltterbahn has plenty of options for everyone big and small. From the Kristal River and its calm currents, to Shripwreck Harbor and its three-foot waves, designed for the little ones and Thunder Tub with its three-person raft.

For the most bang for your buck, make plans to visit Schiltterbahn during the week. It is typically less crowded (shorter lines).  Save some green by purchasing tickets to Schiltterbahn online. Click here for more details. Bring your own snacks and drinks, as Schiltterbahn allows guests to bring their own coolers.

Schlitterbahn is open daily until August 28 and then adjusts its schedule to weekends. Please check their schedule before making plans.

A day spent in the water is enough to make for a wonderful night of rest. Moody Gardens Hotel is just next door and has special packages just for Schlitterbahn. The package includes a luxurious room, valet parking and tickets to Schiltterbahn. For pricing and details, click here or call 1-888-388-8484.

Three Summer Musicals Come to Moody Gardens Hotel, Spa and Convention Center

Toes are sure to tap this summer as the musicals, “American Pride,” “The Night the Music Died” and “Hello Dolly,” come to Moody Gardens Hotel, Spa and Convention Center. This July, the three musicals will perform on various dates to hundreds of spectators in the Moody Gardens Convention Center. The musicals are part of Texas Family Musicals Incorporated. TFM is a non-profit theater corporation that produces musicals to launch the careers of young professionals in musical theater.

“American Pride,” is a spectacular musical about what is right with America. Michael Skiles, Executive Producer says, “Forget the news, set aside the politics and come celebrate what is right with America today with Texas Family Musicals’ production of American Pride.  A new musical written and directed by The Waltons’ Judy Norton”.

“The Night the Music Died” brings music from Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and The Big Bopper to life! “Through the magic of theater, this concert comes back to life in full blast where the audience will actually feel that they were there on that fateful night,” said Skiles.

“Hello Dolly” is a Tony Award winning classic that features Judy Norton (The Waltons) and Don Most (Happy Days). Skiles says, “Audiences never tire of this classic musical and our production that follows the story of how Mrs. Doll Levi plays matchmaker.”

The Texas Family Musicals is one of the most unique theater organizations in the county. Its mission is twofold. One is to produce quality family friendly Broadway style musicals while the second direction is to help launch careers for young professionals in musical theater. Everyone involved with Texas Family Musicals is actively pursuing a career in theater. Since this mission was adopted in 2007, 58 TFM alumnae have made it to Broadway where two were nominated for Tony awards.  Over 160 have joined National tours and many others have gone on to larger theaters.

This year, we wanted to pay tribute to the early beginnings of the Galveston Summer Musicals. “American Pride” contains actual scenes from the Lone Star and South Pacific which played each year at the Mary Moody Northern Amphitheater.  “Hello Dolly” was another regular production at the Amphitheater having played there seven straight years. “The Night the Music Died” was created on the outdoor stage the last year of production. It is an original show by the Texas Family Musicals and has played each year since its inception.  It plays to capacity crowds each time.  All shows are tied into the early years of the Galveston Summer Musicals.
