What are your plans for New Year’s Eve? Let’s include the whole family this year!

When you think of New Year’s Eve, most people imagine ball gowns, champagne, and a countdown.

If you’re a family, the list usually includes a babysitter.

This year, we’re changing that.

New Year’s Eve is an important night. We’re giving families the opportunity to celebrate it together.

With games, amazing food, and activities for the whole family, it’s a NYE Palooza to remember.

From the time you arrive, we’ll have a full day of fun lined up for your family.

Ice Land, all the pyramid attractions, and even a firework show at Palm Beach!

And of course, it ends with an early countdown and hundreds of balloons falling from the ceiling.

It’ll be a night of celebrating 2018, and looking forward to 2019, together.

“The last thing we want to do is over-fish,” says Hotel General Manager Leon Garrison. “That’s why we’re making this important change.”

Posted by Moody Gardens Hotel, Spa and Convention Center on Monday, December 10, 2018

Moody Garden staff says goodbye to our long-time staff member who’s battling cancer. She inspires us all.

Hug, tears and sweet goodbyes.

That was the atmosphere at the goodbye party for Ms.  Joann Trahan.

Joann is battling stage-four cancer, and she’s decided it’s time to step down from her position.

The Viewfinders Terrace sparkled with pinks and golds as hotel staff gathered around.

“Make sure you don’t forget us,” said Hotel General Manager Leon Garrison. “Come back any time.”

Joann began her journey with Moody Gardens in 1997, starting as a banquet server. Now, she’s retiring in a management position.

“If it was up to me I would be here forever, walking out on a cane,” she said.

Joann told the story of how everything changed for her during Hurricane Ike.

“That was when I realized the Moody family’s commitment to their employees,” she said. “The people that worked here did not have to worry about a place to live. They put everyone up. I said then I would never leave this place of employment. I was going to stay here and retire here. They would come and sit and eat in the dark with us. We were one big family. They could’ve left us… not given a hoot. But they stayed here with us.”

She encouraged her co-workers to stay committed to the hospitality industry.

“It’s not easy. Long hours. Clients out of control. But don’t give up.”

Her friends and family stood by her side as she gave her goodbye speech.

“I’ve learned to accept whatever God puts in my path. For me, that’s leaving here. But my heart is full. I’m content.”

Joann’s presence and encouraging spirit will be dearly missed at our hotel.

We’re Partnering with Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch®; Committing to Serve Only Ocean-Friendly Seafood Today

Moody Gardens Hotel, Spa & Convention Center is going even more ocean-friendly. We’re partnering with the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch program. We’ll now be serving only seafood caught or farmed in safe ways.

“The last thing we want to do is over-fish,” says Hotel General Manager Leon Garrison. “That’s why we’re making this important change.”

Our seafood choices affect the world’s fish populations. Seafood Watch empowers consumers and businesses to make choices for a healthy ocean. They assess how wild-caught and farmed seafood affect the environment.

“We want to be leaders in this initiative,” says Garrison. “Now, we’re calling others in Galveston and the Houston area to do the same thing. We need to take care of our fisheries so that we have seafood forever.”
